I had the pure joy recently of meeting the lovely and kind Pam from Red Ticking. We met at her beautiful shop which was beyond my expectations, truly spectacular in all it's vintage, creamy white, sparkling holiday finery. It was a very special whirlwind of a visit where we chatted the whole time trying to learn as much as we possibly could about each other, in the short amount of time we had together. And of course being the sweetheart that she is...not only did she take me across the street to one of my favorite local bakery's (Essential) and treat me to a delicious coffee & muffin...she also spoiled me with this very thoughtful and charming gift...
the enchanting Garland of Peace, which has truly brought peace to my heart and also a smile every time I've looked at it. She couldn't have bestowed a more perfect token of friendship.
Well, I had wanted to somehow put the garland up for Christmas and I thought the fireplace would be the perfect spot. With no mantle yet, and huge gaps between the wall and rocks, it was a bit tricky to get it just right, but perseverance won out and thankfully, it has actually stayed up now for several days! I absolutely love it there, especially alongside our angel.
Soon after putting the garland up, I checked in on A Perfect Gray and saw with amazement Donna's very touching post...my heart swelled, along with my eyes. I remembered that Pam had just done a very cute post with a little nod to Donna, without even knowing of the loss she had just experienced and I started to see and feel these little connections as somehow soft acknowledgements of comfort and "peace"...and just as I was thinking about this, I walked by our guestroom and the sun, which hadn't been out for days, had our 'Peace Lily' all aglow, and it stopped me in my tracks...
I finally realized that this "Peace" was meant to be shared, that it wasn't only for my eyes, and that it hadn't been only a gift for me.
Thank you again dear Pam. I believe that there are so many small and tender ways God will hug our spirits when they are in need...a beautiful note of remembrance tied caringly around a lit candle, a post of mirrored gray with someone special in mind...or a sweet garland of Peace given in friendship...to more than one friend.
(btw - my walls are not yellow, they just choose to be photographed that way)

A beautiful post.
I love the garland of peace, so simple and joyful. I also love all of your built in cabinents. and the color of your guest room is simply yummy.
so glad you and pam were able to spend some time together. she has a huge & generous heart as do you.
next time i am going to have to show up and plan more time together :)
Purple Flowers...thank you! The guest room color was quite a challenge to get right (think adobe and old lady stockings) but we're so thrilled with how it turned out. I think purple will look quite pretty with it, don't you?! xo
Brock...you're so sweet, one of the things we talked about was how nice it would have been to have you, your sis, Ivy and Donna there, so please do show up next time, we'll mark out a whole entire day (or week)! xo
Jessica, I'm so glad you had a nice visit with Pam. The peace garland made me smile! What a beautiful gift. Your home looks lovely! The light coming in through your guest room window looks gorgeous and so hopeful.:)
H.H.
Jessica, with your kind soul you only attrac the good. Blessings abound! Thanks for telling us about Red Ticking. I look forward to my first visit. By the way... Jessica's walls are Benjamin Moore HC-29, Dunsmore Cream, so expertly chosen by her, with her exquisite taste. Now...we have to do something about that fireplace! :-)
H.H.~ Thank you...that garland is a smile maker for sure! I was so happy to see the sun that day, we'd been having the stormiest, darkest days of late, it was so pretty to see.
xo
Elizabeth~ You're too kind...and, that Dunmore Cream was "expertly chosen" with the help of a certain master of color known as YOU! Without your help, I'd still be wondering if I had made the right choice, you helped with all tremendously! Didn't the Honeysuckle Suite colr photograph well?? I was very pleasantly surprised!
You'll love Red Ticking, and Pam...check out her blog, it's as wonderful as she is.
xo
Oh yes...and Liz, the fireplace is still most definitely our 'problem child', such a puzzle! The color, the mantel...I know the vision will one day exist..and I'm trying to wait patiently for it. ;)
Peace to you my dear! I read that post as well and was so saddened... it's funny how things work and how we meet people just in the nick of time when we don't even realize how much we need them.... so glad you and Pam connected! and how lucky you all are to be able to see eachother! someday....someday!... i'll pop in for a muffin and coffee and a chat!
Merry Christmas!!!
Just beautiful Miss J. Love you and praying for peace to be a constant house guest!!
Here's one idea... a mantle of natural wood in keeping with the floor and the ceiling, that is on the same horizontal plane as the cabinetry. And the sheet rock painted the color of the walls. Put the focus on the fireplace.
Ivy~ Someday someday indeed! Dennice was also included in that party...what group we would make, it would be so nice...
Merry Christmas to you also and I truly hope all is well...xoxo
Em~ I love that prayer...it's wonderful, thank you!!! xoxo
Liz~ I like the wood idea also. We have an old piece of reclaimed lumber from the now defunct Fisher Flour mill that was off Alki, and we've been trying to figure out how to make a mantel out of it on all four sides...and you're right, the fireplace should be the focal point, not the paint color (is that blaspheme?) ;) ...thanks for the ideas!
