Glue Wall Love

Last week, A Perfect Gray did a marvelous post on wall textured rooms and I had instantly recognized some of those textures...they were glue walls. I know this to be true because our previous house, the one we had lived in for ten years (and finally tore down to build our new house), had them.

They were in the dining room and used to be covered over by very old (yucky) wall paper...hence the glue! We grew to love these walls with their nicotine stained, french bistro (think Balthazar's in NYC or Le Pichet in Seattle) patina, and everyone who saw them asked how we had "done them".

(Balthazar's - photo unknown, have had saved for a long time)

Le Pichet - (seattledining.com)

Sometimes...in soft natural light, they looked like washed linen or even sea grass. Who knew that this 50's shoebox rambler could ever hold such a treasure. We tried to think of ways to save them for the new house but to no avail, so...maybe one day, in the future, I will put up some wallpaper, wait thirty or so years for the glue to age to perfection, and then once again...have my beautiful glue walls.
