So Grateful...

A very deep and heartfelt thank you to all of the self sacrificing men and women who have courageously served the cause of peace and freedom in honor and patriotism...we salute your bravery!

In my art classes this week, for the first time ever, many of my students were requesting that we draw a picture for Veteran's Day. I thought it so wonderful that they were learning about this very special holiday in their home rooms. Usually during this time of year we are easing our way into Thanksgiving with Native American artwork, Cornucopia's and the like, and I wasn't prepared for this...next year will be different. I'm so proud of them for wanting to honor the Veteran's with their artwork, and of our schools for teaching them so clearly what this holiday truly means. It touched my heart.

When is Veteran's Day? Is it 11 November? That is when we have Remembrance Day (also in the UK) to remember those who fought and fell in the war. We have a minute's silence at 11 am. A very important day. xoxo

Today was the first Rememberance Day celebrated without a veteran from WW I. It's important that the next generation remember the sacrifice for their freedom. Good for you for teaching this Jessica.

Jane...yes it's the 11th! Here in the states, it started out as a remembrance for WWI but then was turned into a remembrance for all that have and are serving. So happy that the world shares in this day together. xo

Jacqueline...I didn't know this, how strange. soon it will be the same for WWII vets...may we honor them all while they are still here with us. xo

Deb...Thank you, I was so proud of my students, I can't wait until next year, it will be a very special class. And thanks so much for your address...message sent! xo

Hi Jessica,

Are you going to post any of the kids' artwork? That would be great. Where do you teach, in the public schools? They are lucky to have you.

Hi Liz...what a nice thing to say, thank you! I always feel so fortunate to have them...they're all fun and joy with a little silly thrown in, perfect tonic for whatever ails you! I've been taking pictures of the kids artwork and hope to do a post about them soon, their creativity and talent blow me away daily.
I teach in a few local elementary schools (LFP) and community centers (Edmonds, Mill Creek, Shoreline). The community centers are where "your" talents" could be shared...be it a painting class or color theory class, just saying! xo
