Getty's Golden Treasures

Well I must say...that was a lovely come back wasn't it?! I suppose it's time to admit that I might be just a little overwhelmed at the moment...a very difficult thing for me to do, but it's true.
None the less, I am going to once again put on my enormously optimistic rose colored glasses, now tinged with the Autumnal color of burnished gold, and hope for the very best as I give it another go.

While at  The Getty Center, which seems ages ago now...it wasn't only the glorious paintings that had captured my heart and imagination, it was also the beautifully crafted, golden, glowing frames that surrounded them.

The details were breathtaking....I was completely captivated by their artistry, and very much in awe of the skill it would have taken to create such delicate, yet grand beauty.

The golden blossoms trellising about Winterhalters portrait of Princess Leonilla, particularly enchanted me.

Such intricacy...

Masterpieces surrounding masterpieces...

Perfectly suited to each other, as in this very Venetian frame that enveloped an exquisitely detailed Canaletto (can you see the little Gondolier?).

I'm not sure why on this particular excursion to The Getty these magnificent framing's caught my eye so intensely...but I'm very happy that they did, as there is now another form of artistic brilliance to be appreciated and admired when being inspired by the great masters...a new enthusiasm, or treasure hunt if you will, that I am extremely excited to continue and enjoy.

There now...that wasn't so difficult, was it Jessica?...why no dearest...it wasn't at all!

That's the thing, Jessica: you only have to fling up a quick post on whatever is on your mind and your enthusiasm shines through. The enthusiasm is just as lovely as the frames.

Hello Jessica;
These gilded beauties are certainly worth a closer look! You are absolutely right that one often gets so involved in looking at the picture that the frame seldom gets a second glance. But, what skill and artistry are to be found in these marvellous examples you show here. Pieces of Art in themselves!

Dear Jane & Lance~ I think of all the glorious frames I've neglected admiring over the years and am looking forward to making up for it in droves! I can't wait until my next 'art' excursion, which will really be a frame quest in disguise! xo

How lucky that you got to go to the Getty! I have always, always loved looking at frames. They actually, very often, can transform an ordinary work into something to take note of...and, of course, as you you have noted so beautifully, they are also the icing on the cake! You have such a good eye, J. :)
