The Getty Escape

Despite the rush and business of my recent trip, I *was* able to make it to The Getty...for three hours, thanks to one of my mom's very special friends who said she'd stay with her so that I could go (such an angel). It was just what I needed and it was pure heaven....a dream world of art, beauty, and history...and the perfect diversion.
The picture above is as close to the gardens as I got, but thankfully I knew where the beautiful indoor gardens were to be found...gardens that were created by those who had been blessed with the inspired gift of planting painted blossoms on grounds of linen earth.
Truthfully, the outdoor gardens are not much missed when you have Vincent van Gogh to personally show you the brilliant asylum Irises of France....
Or freshly picked French garden flowers, lushly arranged by Gustave Courbet....
Not to mention this lovely bouquet, beautifully arranged and carefully set on the kitchen table by Monet...again in France.
Then there was the Italian potted 'vinyard' (one of my particular favorites) created in 1630 by Luca Forte, which also provided a refreshingly indoor-out of doors experience, as you could almost reach out and pluck one of those luscious blue grapes right off of the masterfully painted vine...if only one really could!
Renoir led me through the dappled sunlight of a charming secret garden (I think he was actually flirting with me a bit)...and then, after being in the lush gardens of France for most of the afternoon...
It was time to wander the awe inspiring, bucolic, and much warmer naturalized gardens of Italy, which Jean-Babtiste-Camille Corot was only too happy to show me.
It was a delightful excursion, very peaceful...and the cows frolicking in the river added an extra special layer of serenity. They also gave me the little animal fix I needed due to missing Miss. Ginger...she loves a good garden jaunt.
Wandering around the indoor gardens of The Getty Center was such a treat, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit when I'll be able to wander about them even more...at a much more leisurely pace...there's so much more to be enchanted and captivated by. The exterior gardens will certainly be enjoyed on that visit as well, and I'm hoping that Gitzi will be able to accompany me...so we can be enchanted and captivated by the amazing Getty gardens, both inside and out, together!

Hello Jessica:
What a wonderful, amazing experience. And, indeed, what a superb collection about which we knew but had little idea of the exact wealth of treasures actually amassed in The Getty Centre.

Completely new to us are the flower paintings by Courbet, an artist whose work we much admire. We always associate him with paintings of the cliffs in Northern France so this gives a totally new and different insight into his work.

Corot is a firm favourite for those wonderfully quiet landscapes painted in soft colours and always with a hint of mystery about them.

Jane & Lance...I hope that one day you'll both get to experience all the treasures that the Getty museums have to offer, the collection is truly priceless. I haven't been to the Villa since I was a child, so that's next on my list.
It's wonderful to discover another 'side' to an artist, and I'm happy that you were able to do so here with Courbet's pretty masterpeice, it was one of my favorites. xo

Linnea...Yes, a good painting can hold one over for a very long time...a whole museum full goes the distance indefinitely! xo

Ivy...It was so perfect, just wish I'd had more time to enjoy more of all the general splendour. xo

Helen...I think you'd be in heaven there and never want to leave...it's truly spectacular, I hope you get to visit one day. Maybe Gitzi and I could meet you there?! xo

Lee...Having these little getaways is crucial in the continual care of loved ones, they help to bring a boost of joy so that the care can continue in joy. I think you my dear should have them as often as you can! xoxo

Pam...I've been thinking of you so much! I love what you said about always feeling 'you' close by, I feel the same and have been wanting to see you for ever! This weather is amazing, I don't remember it ever being so nice for so long, I'm soaking up every last bit of it.
The Getty would be such a great place for a birthday, I've never eaten there but I bet it's wonderful, how could it not be?!
Hugs...xoxo
