So for the next leg of our journey we decided it would be fun to go to New Orleans, Louisiana and experience Mardi Gras...Blue Dog style!
Of course we needed some seriously fun Jazz to accompany us along the way, and who better to supply those Jazzy music needs than NOLA's very own...the Mr.'s Wynton and Ellis Marsalis...pure jazz royalty!

Once we arrived, we realized that beads, masks, feathers and crowns were going to be needed...everyone was thrilled about that!
So we tried some things on and then got to gettin all dressed up!
This is Frank...he wasn't very thrilled about having to dress up, but he was a good sport about it and ended up looking quite festive!
And this is Estelle...Frank's wife. She was still trying to decide what color all her finery should be when I took this picture. Frank kept telling her she looked just fine as is, and since they were running late, she should just stick to the all white theme and call it good! Estelle would hear nothing of the sort...but as we had to hightail it out of there to get our perfect parade spot, we never found out what she actually ended up choosing...I'm sure it was dazzling though!
This is Lavinia...Estelle's best friend. She stayed behind to help Estelle in her decision making.
Then there was Fern...she decided to be different! Since Blue Dog can technically be blue, red, green, pink...or yellow, she thought it would be fun to mix things up a bit. Who wants to wear the same color all the time anyway?
And then at long last, when we'd had our fun and explored all the shiny, glittery and colorful delights of Mardi Gras and New Orleans (well, not all the delights, we are ages 6-10 after all)...it was time to head back home to our beloved Seattle...
And to once again see the glorious night sky that hangs like an umbrella over that famous Emerald City skyline...that is, when it's not cloudy of course!
And when we finally did reach home...it was time to immediately start planning our next trip! This time, we're going Around The World...London, China, Russia, and Egypt I think...still working on the itinerary...but there's plenty of time...we don't leave until NEXT MONDAY! Wish me luck!A huge thank you to all of my delightful traveling companions - to my partner in Art...Alicia, who's very special talents provided us with our New Orleans and Seattle destinations, to Miss. Kaitlyn Elizabeth...who's map reading and many other skills were indispensable (you always rock, even after a night of Katy Perry),...and of course, to our fabulous students who amaze us with their creativity, humor, wonderful stories...and plain old cuteness...you all are the very best! ♥

Hello Jessica:
Without a doubt your highly imaginative and totally original approach to your subject and to your teaching produces the most wonderful results.
We shall look forward to the European tour!
Adorable and cute ♥
Enjoy on your trip!
Nice to know you are having such a great time ♥
Part 1 and Part 2, I have enjoyed them both!
I was looking forward to seeing what these young minds would come up with, given just a bit of inspiration, and what wonderful work they have created! They must be so proud of themselves! You can see that you are proud of them too! Love it!
xo
Jane&Lance...Thank you so much! I think we should visit Budapest one day, and I would love some ideas on what you would suggest we see, it would be fun to teach my students about Hungary, a beautiful country that I think needs a bit more attention! xo
Ann...Thank you!!!
Peony...So happy you enjoyed them! One of the things I look forward to most of all is seeing wht they will come up with, I'm always amazed and tickled! And I love when they are thrilled with what they've created...it's the best feeling! xo
I really enjoyed reading both posts. The Mardi Gras! What fun that would have been! Can't wait to hear about your next adventure!
Such inspiring artwork! I just love the colors and how each child adds his/her own personal style to the project. Joyful!
Can't wait to see where this takes you starting Monday :)...

This is so much fun and I love your story telling. You have quite the little artists on your hands.
BTW....I LOVE Seattle! (Thanks for visiting me today, I'm a new follower of you too!)
xx
Jessica, you are so creative. Just loved this.
I am on blogging hiatus for the summer.
Isn't it divine?

RabbitTown...So happy you enjoyed our little 'trip'! I can only imagine what Mardi Gras would look like through *your* eyes...that would be something! xo
Dennice...Thank you dearest! Joyful is such a nice word, it describes how I feel exactly during these classes. ♥ I'm looking forward to seeing where Monday takes me too as I'm in that crazy state of whirlwind planning right now, that makes one wonder how we're ever going to leave on time! xo
Renae...Thank you so much for the follow! I'm thrilled that you stopped by and that you enjoyed our travel stories...those 'little artists' are a huge inspiration!!! xo
Elizabeth...So glad you stopped by while on hiatus...I feel special! Glad you enjoyed this and hope the rest of your 'summer' away IS perfectly *divine* and refreshing...so when 'you come back', you'll be as brilliant as ever! Happy Hiatusing!!! xo
I immediately thought of the Blue Dog series the minute I saw it! Well done and FUN!!! Big smiles :-D all 'round for this round!
Elizabeth...I love that you recognized her (or him)...glad the pup and pals gave you smiles...and big ones at that!! xo
Love the blue dog. Don't you think Mardi Gras is to be avoided at all costs. My girls have been while they were in college, and even they didn't like it. I'm trying to get down there this winter. Let me know what not to miss.
Best,
Liz
The blue dog put such a smile on my face, I love these posts and I'm sitting listing to jazz just now with hubs over Saturday evening cocktail hour at home.
Liz...You're probably right, especially for little ones...but this was the 'Disney Mardi Gras' of our imaginations...so it was a very fun time and an innocent one as well! I'm sure you'll have a spectacular time when you go...check in with "Snippets of Thyme"...she has some wonderful New Orleans posts...and be sure to check out Lucullus when you there...antique heaven! xo
B&P...I'm so happy Blue Dog made you smile...and how pefect that you were listening to jazz just then, wonderful timing! xo
