I've been diverting my attentions to outside lately...and a few days ago, on one of our rare sunny days, I was walking around Edmonds, a quaint little town not far from where we live. This is where the ferry terminal is for traveling to the Olympic Peninsula. Two ferries are always traveling back and forth....it's about a thirty minute ride so you're sure to see one on Puget Sound no matter what time of day it is.

On this particular day, I also caught a hazy view of Mt. Baker in the distance...as usual, always white with snow.

And across the street street from all this watery, mountainous beauty, were these...

roses, nasturtiums, lavender, poppies...and so much more, it was beautiful and just what my soggy soul needed to take my mind off of the...

NOT SO PRETTY!

This actually is the tamest of all the pictures we took when the wall containing our new leak (gush) was broken into. I couldn't bare to show you the others...a moldy moisture ant farm is not something I would wish on anyone to see...except those who must.
It was discovered that three years ago, an itty-bitty nail was un-knowingly shot into one of our pipes when the backing for the shower tile was being put up...and this pipe wasn't used until very recently...so we had no idea. It seems that the damage may have traveled as far as the dining room...we're not sure yet, but those pesky moisture ants have shown up there now...only time and demolition will tell!
Onward and upward!

Oh J-bird,
I am so sorry. Keep your eyes focused up and out right now....This two shall pass! I am praying for you sweetie! Love the pics of Edmonds right now, so beautiful! Call if you want, you know I love to chat!

Well done you...to balance your drama with beauty. It's what keeps life in perspective.
Stay the course Jessica...slow and steady wins the race.
Oh shoot, let me send you some photos of my bathroom ceiling and walls where we had not one but 4 pipe leaks from above over the past 3 years that have required non-stop plumbers and we are finally awaiting the painter. All pipes, every single one has been changed... I think we are safe now:)
Those views are so wonderful !
It is pretty here but the views and the flowers and greenery of the Pacific NW is just so amazing.
I miss Oregon in the Summer :)
Em~ Thanks for the prayers, they are what's holding us up and moving us forward right now!
Luv U!
Jacqueline~ I hope your plumbing woes have resolved themselves and that you are taking HOT showers & baths again! One foot in front of the other for us right now...and baby steps at that! xoxo
Abroad~ I saw some of the horrendous pictures on your blog...how did it all get dried out?? So happy the whole experience is almost over for you...did you find a "white" yet? xo
Glad you're keeping it all in good perspective. Thanks for sharing such beautiful pictures. (well, some of them at least.)
Jessica I love how you labeled this post under 'snafu'! I was ohhhing..& awwwing over your incredible Edmonds pic's and then ..screech...
I feel really bad for you guys. We've had our fair share of leaks over the last year and it doesn't make for cheery moments. Just so no more hurricanes come until we sell this house. I was surprised that the weather there is chilly & like you said during Seafair. I use to love to watch the hydroplane races. I'm willing you some of our 98F weather we had today, if that sounds good? I think you need a big hug too. x deb
Jessica, your new pictures you took in Edmonds are just beautiful. Towards all that happened lately, your attitude is great and it will carry you thru everything. I am so proud of you.
Love, Mampi
Uurrrrg!!!! Such a bummer. I hope your beautiful home is restored to it's original splendor very soon! Oh, and kick those ants to the curb!
Beautiful pics, good idea surrounding yourself around beauty! Hang in there...
Thanks for sparing us the ant farm, but that photo is still so..... wrong. So sorry.
Love, love Edmonds! We would go often when we lived in Portland (and also when we lived in Dallas). Is the antique mall in the old grocery store still there? There was also one across from the Mexican rest. Fun antiquing memories.
Missing the NW!
joan
well... the "pretty" part was soooo pretty..and the not so pretty part...well... just try to hang in.... I promise it will be pretty again!!!! So sorry you are going through this mess... lean on us anytime..we are all here for you!! :)
Liz~ Trying very hard...the pretty scenery helps! Can you believe it!?!
Deb~ I knew you'd like the pictures...sorry for the un-pretty surprise! I'll definitely take the 98F *and* the hug...thank you ♥!
And NO hurricanes until you sell your house, that's an order...to mother nature! ;)
Mampi~ Thank you...and I'm glad you like the pictures, I think you would have been snapping a million that day! xoxo
Hood Canal Gal~ You crack me up...I kicked em good! (although there was ONE in the bedroom today - yuck!) Thanks...:)
Joan~ Sadly, most of the antique malls in Edmonds have closed...there are a few smaller ones popping up though, and they're really quite nice. It's so sad...I loved antiquing in those malls too, I miss them. xo
Ivy...You lift me up with your comments...thank you dear, dear friend! That leaning might come in handy actually... ;) Wishing you a wonderful week! xoxo
Heavenly scenery....xv
Beautiful photos Jessica. I do miss Washington at times. We had a lovely home in Ocean Park just outside of Long Beach.
The ants really do love the moisture. You must be on a crawl space for your foundation. Hope your problem isn't too severe. You're keeping the right attitude! Susan :)
Only time will tell about the Hot Water Heater Vent Pipe Caper. The wonderful Wally spent two full days her...four holes in the ceiling and two outside and after four days we still have hot water!
I'm choosing to live with the holes for a tad longer, don't want to get them filled, plastered and painted and then have to start over.
How goes the ant assassination?
hi my darling friend... when i read this my heart was sad... i know you just want to "live" in a nice clean lovely "new" home where all is tidy... and for whatever reason... God will help you thru this ...you know it... and my thoughts are with you as you"kick" those rascals to the curb ... i love watching ferries... there is something soo peaceful about them...
i was back and forth to bainbridge all weekend (clients)... but felt somehow like i was on vacation ... the air, the horn, the water... aaahhh
love the flowers in your post... xoxo
Vicki~ That means a lot coming from you, considering where you live! ;)
Susan~ We actually have a cement foundation. It seems they're in our walls and under the wood floors. I don't think it will be a pretty site when those floors come up! :/
Jackie~ Your smart to keep those holes open for a bit! Lets hope that hot water stays for good...can you send Wally our way please?! the ants are still with us...they like to travel and send scouts out to find new places to "nest" :[ We're trying to stay on top of the situation and continue to let them know they're not welcome! xo
Dear Pam~ Thank you...your comment is so sweet! There's a reason for everything and I know God's got it handled, he must think we're pretty tough. Your prayers and thoughts are so appreciated!
I could watch the ferries all day long, and all night long too...they look like they're floating at night. One of my classrooms in Edmonds looks over Puget Sound and it's all I can do not to stare out the windows the whole time! You have the best job! xoxo
We just found your blog! The photography is beautiful. I used to live in Portland. Each and every person who lives in the PNW earns the beauty of every single gorgeous day. You really have to wait for them. Thanks, we'll peek back often!
Liz
Gorgeous photos!!!
Sorry for your home snafu! That stinks:(
Jessica: Thank you for visiting Dovecote Decor and sending us such a nice message. I wish all of us could get together for a few days, in one place--face to face and share more stories and ideas.
xoxo
Liz
Oh, that's dreadful! Far worse than my minor flooring problem. Your home is so beautiful, what a terrible thing to happen to it! Hope it's resolved soon for you..By the way, you live in a gorgeous spot..Rachaelxx
